About Jiva Thai

We are a newly established small business. We aim to create a livelihood for our staff and our suppliers, who are entrepreneurs and people living in rural areas and developing countries. Although our name sounds very Thai, we do not limit ourselves to only Thai products. We start with Thai products because our root is from Thailand. We also try our best to support fair wage and fair trade practices.

We believe in a healthy diet and life-style and the idea of well-being for all. A vegetarian diet is one of the practices that is friendly to people (our human bodies and minds), our animal friends and environment. We've found that several groups of strict vegetarians have pretty limited food choices in various international cuisines, including Thai cuisine that normally contains seafood ingredients, garlic and onion. As a result, we try to supply yummy products that are suitable for most vegetarian diets, including vegan, Mahayana Buddhism, Hare Krs'na Hare Rama, and Satvic diets.

What's in the name? 'Jiva' in Sanskrit means alive and healthy. You may wonder why we use a Sanskrit word instead of a Thai word. Surprisingly, around 75% of Thai words have their roots from Sanskrit and Pali (an ancient language in South Asia region). The word 'Jiva' is one of those. In Thai, we pronounce the word 'Chi-Wa'.
